Specialty Summer Camp Programs
Specialty camps give children opportunities to discover something new or to delve more deeply into something they already find interesting. They are perfect activities for making summer special.
Specialty Camps for Grades K-12
3D Architectural Models
During this one-week course, you will plan and then build – using task board materials – a unique custom home of your own design.
Sewing
During this one-week. half-day sewing camp, students will learn how to safely use a sewing machine. By the end of the week they will make a backpack and zippered pencil case.
Lower School Chess Camp
Chess trains the mind and stimulates the intellect. It’s a game we can play all our lives, almost anywhere. Come learn from a chess master, our own Alexander Gustafsson. Only one week per camper, please!
College Essay Writing Workshop
When applying to selective colleges, how can you stand out among many qualified applicants? One way is with a compelling essay. Get a competitive advantage, jumping in for five mornings of intensive, helpful and enjoyable essay writing help.
Middle School Shakespeare Workshop
Spend a week this summer with us learning about the genius of Shakespeare, through reading, acting out, and viewing Much Ado About Nothing and a Winter’s Tale. In this one-week theater intensive, students will workshop for the first four days at our Black Box Theater (9:00-12:00) and then finish the week with an overnight trip (Friday and Saturday) to the world-renowned Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City.
Middle School Robotics
Whether you have been through our 5th grade FLL robotics program, have done robotics and coding elsewhere, or are just starting out, this is the right place. It provides a great next step towards the FTC robotics in high school.
Late Summer Ballet
Join the Waterford Dance Academy for a late summer dance camp and get back in the groove before the school year begins. The camp will be taught by Waterford dance faculty and guest teachers.
Magical Cooking and More
If you find yourself craving something made by house elves at Hogwarts, produced in Professor Snape’s potions class, or perhaps off the menu at the Boar’s Head, come learn how to make it for yourself.
Let’s Make a Musical!
Spend a week helping to write, produce, and perform a mini-musical with a group of other creative and fun campers and the help of music, dance, and acting specialists. Campers will participate in every stage of this production.
Healthy Living (for upper school credit)
This for-credit class fills a graduation requirement and can free up a future spot to take a one term class during the academic year.
MS Creative Writing Workshop
Calling all writers! Come join us for a week of extreme literary shenanigans! Students will experiment with several creative genres over the course of this five-day camp.
Storybook Ballet Camp
Join us this summer for our Young Dancer’s Classical Ballet Summer Camp. The curriculum is created to encourage age-appropriate creativity, musicality, and physicality. Your child will dance and have fun with an emphasis on the foundations of ballet.
Success in Middle School
In this fun camp we will be focusing on the essential skills of middle school: organization, note-taking, planning, mindfulness, friendship, self advocacy and school resources. We’ll be learning all this through wild interactive activities, designed to help you build friendships and confidence.
Lower School Robotics
About our Lower School Robotics Camp This is a camp for students entering 4th or 5th grade. Come join our beloved Science and Robotics teacher, Mrs. Kristi Watabe, for a fun week learning to assemble and manipulate an autonomous Lego bot. You will improve your programming and building skills by completing fun and crazy daily challenges together! Snacks provided. Before Care available at registration.
The Worlds of Harry Potter
This summer class will explore the many adaptations of the Harry Potter series, ranging from video and tabletop games to theatrical performances and theme parks.
Middle School Painting
Come learn the basics of realistic painting with our beloved transportation coordinator, bus driver, big game hunter, and also accomplished artist, Bruce Hale. You will learn how to make the 3-D world come alive on a 2-D canvas, beginning with an underpainting on the the first few days and then building on that to make a more finished product at the end of the week.
Visual Arts (for credit): Printmaking
One great use of a couple of weeks during summer is to really focus on one class for credit, filling a graduation requirement and freeing up a future spot to take a one term class during the academic year. This class gives students the opportunity to explore basic printmaking techniques. Students will learn a wide variety of monotype techniques using the intaglio press. They will also be introduced to relief printmaking through linoleum cuts, woodcuts, or found objects. Large and small-scale prints are produced, and some basic silk-screening techniques will be explored.
MS Fishing Camp
Join members of our Operations Crew (and outdoor enthusiasts!) Camilo Castillo and Errol Heuer to master the basics of rod and reel fishing. Spend the first two days on campus, learning about angling safety, how to use the equipment, basic anatomy and the habits of fish. We will then try our new skills first at a local pond, then at a lake, and finally in a mountain stream.
MS Community Service Camp
Service benefits those that are being helped and changes those that are performing the service. Their world and their lives are enlarged and enriched as they see how others live. Service creates a canopy of relationships that can overarch all communities. This weeklong camp will instill these values while encouraging your student to become a service-minded member of the community, which is a lifelong process.
Tumbling
Spend a week improving your balance and flexibility and rhythm, pushing your limits, and learning the basic skills of tumbling and cheer from Coach Katelynn Halpren.
Spring Break SCUBA Explorers
Learn the basics of SCUBA with Waterford teacher, Becky Modderman, and her friends at Neptune Divers. Get your SCUBA Explorer and Snorkel Explorer ratings, and much more working in a warm, heated pool.
Young Explorers Hiking Camp
Grass-stained knees, wildflower crowns, and dusty trails seem a little distant in the chill of February, but have no fear! Sun-drenched, nature-rich opportunities await. For five straight days, meet brave leaders Amy Dolbin and Cindy Alm in the cooler hours of the morning to take a hike and explore. Each day is a new location, with new adventures waiting for you and your friends
Middle School SCUBA Certification
The course covers basics of scuba diving techniques, safety, and equipment use. Participants will learn about pressure, dive tables, respiration and planning. This course emphasizes lifelong fitness and wellness concepts. Participants need to be comfortable in the water and able to stay afloat for ten minutes.
Forest & Garden Nature Connection
Join legendary Early Childhood teacher Kristie Jensen and her staff for a week of nature-based songs, rhymes, storytelling, gardening, food prep skills, plant, animal and insect observation, nature crafts, sensory awareness games, and outdoor cooking. Childhood joy, wonder, and friendship will flourish outside!
SCUBA Explorers
Learn the basics of SCUBA with Waterford teacher, Becky Modderman, and her friends at Neptune Divers. Get your SCUBA Explorer and Snorkel Explorer ratings, and much more working in a warm, heated pool.
MS Birding
Come and learn the basics of birding and explore the amazing diversity of bird life here in Utah with our passionate and knowledgeable history teacher, tennis coach, and birder, Ken Wade. We will focus on the experience of birding – finding birds, identifying them, and observing their habitats and behaviors. Working together, we should be able to find and identify close to 100 species!
Math Art
You may think that math is all about algebra, but artists have used principles of math to create masterpieces for centuries! We will learn and implement some basic techniques to create our own tessellations, fractals, origami, and other works of art, and talk about the patterns and postulates that permeate our projects. No experience in math OR art necessary to explore, enjoy, and create beautiful things!
Theater Camps
Join beloved LS Theater teacher Cherie Gallian for one or more of these theater adventures: 1) Scene Studies, 2) Fairytales and Mythology, 3) Costume and Fashion History.
LS Climbing
Come and learn the basics of climbing, bouldering, knot tying, and exploring the outdoors with Ryley Peabody, an experienced outdoor enthusiast and husband of our math teacher, Jenneca Peabody.
LS Math Camp
Come spend a week of math learning and games with our. math specialist, Rayann Sandstrom. Review grade level skills through problem solving and dynamic activities. Putting our creativity and our math minds to work, we will be completing an exciting week-long project. Our work will be filled with activities, fun, and learning.
LS Choir Camp
Spend a week with Matt Robertson and feel the joy of learning new music and blending with the group.
Water Bottle Design
Work with LS Computers teacher, Jenn Johnston to try something new and amazing. During this class one-week. half-day introductory class students will learn basic digital design concepts and tools in Inkscape, leading to the creation of a personalized insulated water bottle using sublimation. A fun, hands-on way to learn and create!
T-shirt Design
Work with LS Computers teacher, Jenn Johnston to try something new and amazing. During this one-week. half-day students will learn digital graphic design skills using Inkscape, focusing on drawing tools and layering techniques. By the end of the class, each student will create a unique graphic for their own T-shirt, combining art and technology for wearable masterpieces.
MS Life Skills
Work with Communications expert and Waterford Math Tutor Jenneca Peabody to have a great time learning how to prepare for success. Through lessons, games, group projects, guest lecturers, and field trips you will see more clearly your path to a better and happier life.
Theater Tech
Join our talented and energetic theater man, Lee Wright, to learn all about what goes on behind, above, beneath and all around the stage. Get a chance for some hands-on building of simple set elements, painting, designing and programming lights, creating sound effects, making props, and even some costuming. This camp will overlap with the Middle and Lower School “Let’s Make A Musical”, so we will get to use our skills on a real production at the end of the week.
Special Projects
A weeklong project, chosen by each student individually, and assisted by fun and helpful camp counselors. Dig in deep and learn a lot while you study your subject, prepare a special presentation, and then share it with the younger day campers.
