Crew Camp

About Our Crew Camp

Few young people have had the opportunity to learn to row with a team. Waterford, Utah’s only high school crew, has been teaching young people to row since 2002. This summer’s camp gives incoming 7th through 9th graders the chance to be outside, test their endurance, and see how to work in harmony with friends to propel the boat forward. Rowing provides a beautiful combination of strength, skill and collaboration. Come and learn the basics with Waterford’s head crew coach, Micah Boyd and his assistants, and have a fantastic week working both out on the water and here on campus. We may use our new team location along the Jordan River Canal or row out on the Great Salt Lake. Transportation to the site will be provided in a Waterford School bus. Coach Boyd is a former collegiate rower himself, has coached at UNC and Duke, and has run many camps for kids. (See a couple of his college coaching pictures among the gallery shots below.)

There are two sessions, July 6-9, and July 19-23. You can sign up for either or both of them. Note that the first session has only four days.

As this camp can be run entirely outside, we intend to offer it in person, with virus protocols, as necessary, including social distancing where possible and mask wearing where it is more difficult to stay distant. Depending on virus spread levels, we may also choose to limit the class size and only row single boats on the water, or doubles for rowers who live in the same household.
